218 Election

Proposition 218, written into the CA Constitution in 1996, requires agencies which are funded by public money to conduct a vote by the taxpayers to increase the funding assessment.

This gives taxpayers control over how much their taxes are increased in relation to the benefit they receive from those agencies.

All landowners within RD-999 are eligible voters. Votes are weighted by the benefit derived from District services, which is expressed by the dollar amount that each landowner is assessed. Simply put, each landowner gets one vote per dollar of assessment paid. If your assessment is $25.00 then you have 25 votes, if your assessment totals $1500.00 then you have 1500 votes.
